Skullcandy App
Skullcandy is a brand synonymous with skaters, surfers, and snowboarders. They know that, and they embrace it. And that’s why the skullcandy app makes so much sense. The concept is totally sound, create an app that integrates surf reports, snow reports, skate park locations, music and media into one do-it-all application. And the skullcandy app does it well. They realise that they are not a weather or surf company, so instead of making their own reports, they get them from companies that are. It’s an app that works because it’s a company that knows it’s limits, its not trying to change the world, its trying to make it easier. And, if you skate, surf, snowboard or like to think you do, then this is a great app for you. It’s incredibly useful, and by most accounts accurate. And one more little thing; its totally and utterly free!
Design: The design of the app works seamlessly and is logical. It isn’t drop dead gorgeous, but it is far from ugly. Overall, top marks for functional design.
Music: It hasn’t got a huge library of music, but it is a decent taste. The music function works well in the app, letting you browse through other information while you listen. The music section really comes down to what you’re tastes are though, and at the end of the day, you’ve probably already got your music on the device, so its just a neat added feature.
Skate Parks: An extensive list, but sadly only for the US. The location feature allows you to find the skate parks nearest to you, but if you don’t live in the US, it isn’t of any assistance at all really.
Surf: Powered by a site called surfline.mobi, it covers pretty much every surf hot spot on the globe, and from what I can tell, seems pretty darn accurate.
Snow: Again, powered by an external site, it also covers darn near every snow resort in the world with up to date weather and snow reports, sadly it is missing trail maps, but thats not really a biggie.
Media: Its got access to the skullcandy blog, the shop as well as having some video media, some wallpaper and ‘UrbanAssualt’
Final Thoughts: The app overall is great. There are a few things that could be changed, but most are simply a personal thing. And let’s be honest here, it’s FREE, you’ve got nothing to lose so go ahead and try it out!
